Beer Brewers Juice up Their Flavor Varieties

Have you heard of "craft" beers? It is beers added flavors like orange, mango, vanilla, pears, limes, raspberry, cranberry, and pumpkin. Anheuser-Busch which is the world's largest brewer began exploring flavors in 2005. However, the craft beers like Michelob Ultra in Pomegranate Raspberry, Lime Cactus and Tuscan Orange Grapefruit flavors hit last spring. Budweiser & Clamato Chelada and Bud Light & Clamato Chelada also came out with beers mixed with Clamato Tomato Cocktail, a clam juice flavored, and Bloody Mary type mixer last month. In these days people are looking for variety of food and drinks. Markets should keep up with them because craft beer sales were up 17% in 2006 while all domestic beer grew just 2%.

Labeling
Since the craft beers are going mainstream as brewers reach for sales growth, Anheuser-Busch will have Bud Light Lime includes real lime juice in May. Anheuser-Busch names by Bud Light because they think it is an opportunity to have mainstream and they also guarantee this as not a small niche. Miller Brewing also introduced Miller Chill which is a light bear flavor with lime and salt. Miller decided to put flavored light beer under its own brand name. The reason why not make it a variety of Miller Lite is the marketers believe it sounds more premium.

Opinion
I do not drink beers because I do not think it tastes good. However, I like to enjoy drink cocktails in jazz bar. There is a problem because it is hard to get a cocktail in grocery stores. If the beers taste like cocktail and easy to get, then I will buy it. I believe there are many young people like me. I think the target for this flavored beer is young drinkers. This marketing is successful because it directly affected the growth.
